Reciprocating Pump Drill

The shaft and whorl are made of maple, the cross arm is of chestnut, hemp string and an iron ring to hold the blade.  The blade is made from an old saw blade and cut in both directions.  These drills are good for small shallow holes and are very handy tools that dates back tens of thousands of years.  Click on picture on right to see the action.
